Saarschleife and Blieskastel

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get this post written. I guess I only got two posts written in the whole month of May!

On the 28th of May all of us went to the Saarschleife. This is a part of the Saar river that makes a hairpin turn. In the middle part of it there is an old castle that  you can hike to and it has a restaurant inside of it. It took us about an hour to hike to the castle from the car and it was pretty easy going....there wasn't a lot of hills and such. It was pretty flat most of the way.

For one euro you could go on the walls of the castle. From there you could see a lot of the surrounding area. You could also see the lookout point on the other side of the river. After we got done exploring the castle we made our way back to the car where we drove for 15 minutes or so and we came to the parking area for the lookout point.

From the car we walked about 10 minutes or so in total to get to the lookout point. This point was right in the middle of the Saarschleife so you could see both sides. There was also a gift shop and I am pretty sure a restaurant as well right by the parking area.

There is a town called Mettlach that is right by the Saarschleife so we stopped to explore the town. The town is famous for the Villeroy & Boch china factory. Of course I had to stop in their store and get my mom something so that she can say she has something (don't want to ruin the surprise) from Villeroy & Boch.

When we were done with the Saarschleife and Mettlach we made made our way into the neighboring state and we visited this little chapel on the top of this hill. The chapel sat right on the edge of the hill and was right over the water.

On Fridays I don't have class and Heather and my's friend Valerie invited us to her town to walk around and look at the town. She lives in a small town like us but on the other side of Saarbrücken. Valerie took us to this rock that sticks straight up in the air and it is called the Gollenstein. In the pictures you can see that it has lines and that is when the people of the town destroyed it during WWII so that planes couldn't see it from the air. Then once the war was over they put it back together.
Valerie showed us some more of the sites of her town like the Orangerie, the school and the shopping/city square area. So now it is our turn to show Valerie our small little town once we get back from our trip to Köln (Cologne)!

The day after that Heather and I went to the zoo here in Saarbrücken. We spent a good three to four hours there. When we got back we watch a short portion of a tennis match and then all of us went to IKEA and another sports store. After that we went to a Stadfest (cityfest) in Saarlouis. There were lots of stands where you could buy something to eat or get something to drink. At the end of the night there was a firework show that lasted for about ten minutes. At the end of the day Heather and I were really tired and ready for bed.

This week we will have our last vacation day of school so we are using it to go to Köln (Cologne) to visit some friends and we might go to Bonn as well since it will be right in the area. I should have a ton of pictures and hopefully stories to tell when we get back!
