Thursday was a day called Christi Himmelfahrt. So since it was a religious holiday we got the day off from school. Our friend Valerie wanted to go with us somewhere. Heather and I really wanted to go to Burg Eltz which is a castle in Rheinland Pfalz, the next state up. So Heather, Valerie, Valerie's boyfriend Johannes and I pooled our money and bought a train ticket that would take all four of us anywhere in Saarland (which our student IDs do) and Rheinland Pfalz. After we split it four ways it was only about 8 Euros which isn't that bad.

We had to take a train to Trier and then switch trains and take another one in the direction of Koblenz. That was about another hour and a half or so until we arrived at a really small town called Moselkern. From there we walked about and hour through the town and woods to get to Burg Eltz. There was a sign that said it was only 6km but I am not sure how far it actually was.

It was a pretty easy hike. The path wasn't very steep and the path itself was pretty flat, which was good because Heather had a dream she tripped or something and broke her ankle so the less stuff sticking out of the path the better. Once we got to the castle there were a ton of people there. We bought tickets to take a tour...which was actually longer than the Neuschwanstein tour, believe it or not. Afterwards we just walked around and took pictures.
On our way back we had to hurry because the train only comes once every hour and we would have been cutting it close....and we didn't want to have to wait another whole hour for the next one. We made it in time and so we headed back to Trier to meet my friend Julia for supper. After we ate we walked back to the train station and went back to Saarbrücken. We got home at 11:30pm I think so we were really tired.
Then on Saturday, Heather and I took a bus from Saarbrücken to Luxembourg. For the round trip it only cost us each 14 Euros which wasn't too bad! It is about an hour and fifteen minute bus ride. Once there we met up with Julia and we set off to explore Luxembourg City.

| all of us in Luxembourg |
We had done a little bit of research and the city gives a plan of routes you can take if you are in town for just a day. I am not sure if it was because we walked so much to Burg Eltz just two days before or my shoes, but my feet hurt most of the day so it seemed like we walked forever. Julia printed off the map of the route and some of the history of the buildings, which she read to us as we walked by them. But it was a fun day!
Luxembourg is just as green as Germany! One thing we did notice, though, was that Luxembourg people make a lot of money. On one street we saw; a Gucci store, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hugo Boss and a Marc Jacobs. Also when we were looking at the menus for restaurants it was hard to find a place that cost less than 20 euros to eat at.

Luxembourg is also a very popular tourist attraction apparently....who knew?! I didn't that's for sure. There were a ton of tourists. Mainly Asian, American, German and British. Although if they were french tourists there is no way I would have been able to tell. There were people everywhere it was crazy. Also at the end of the day they were putting up guard rails through the market square we were in, which we think is because there was going to be a race today. So that might have been another reason why there were a ton of people.
